Councillor for Ward 5 – Leaderdale and Melrose
Leaderdale and Melrose covers Blainslie, Darnick, Earlston, Gattonside, Langshaw, Lauder, Legerwood, Melrose, Newstead, Oxton, Redpath, Tweedbank.
Iain was elected in the May 2013 by-election.
Former rugby-player for Kelso and Galashiels, licensee and well-known veterinary surgeon, Iain has been in the Borders since 1971, and now lives near Langshaw with his wife and young family.
Iain says “I’ve greatly enjoyed living and working in the Borders for the past 41 years and now feel it’s time to give something back to the community. I don’t think national party politics are helpful at local level, and I like the way the Borders Party is reviving the independent tradition here, as well as having a real focus on putting the Borders first.”
A former Director of Merlin Veterinary Group, Iain spends his rather limited free time in semi-retirement gardening and studying for a post graduate distance learning course in organic farming and as the Radio Borders vet.
